He let himself be captured so that the world would see the Avengers trying to sweep their failures under the rug, putting more fuel on the fire against the team. Unfortunately, the person leading the charge against the Avengers is Norman Osborn, so Simon's done far more damage than good (to be expected, since he's gone pretty far off the bend).<br /><br />As for quality storytelling; this year also saw Criminal: Last of the Innocent, Bendis' return to creator-owned comics, the debut of Sacrifice, X-Men Schism, Scott Snyder's Batman comics, and the continuation of several great series like iZombie, Sweet Tooth, Elephantmen, Brubaker's Captain America, Morrison's Batman, The Boys, and Casanova.
