I feel Claremont's post-Byrne X-Men is worthy of more attention than perhaps it's been deemed; for the most widely-read comic of its time, the Common Comics Culture sure doesn't seem to have much to say about the X-Men series between Byrne's departure and whatever has shipped in the previous 30 days.Michael Hoskinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11302540308587868138noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5146591810616867072.post-18304369237650876782011-11-05T05:16:24.752-06:002011-11-05T05:16:24.752-06:00Hello Michael:- Reading your piece leaves me noddi...Hello Michael:- Reading your piece leaves me nodding and think "good choice, sir". Not the most obvious choice, is it, and yet you're right, it's a comic built on several terrifying concept; the holocaust and the idea of the human body as an incubator for the young of another species.

I fear I was - a-hem - a little older than you when this first appeared, and the bloom had been off of the rose for me where the X-Men were concerned since John Byrne had walked. But there was still more than enough going on underneath the soap operatics to keep me turning up until Cockrum's successor Paul Smith left about a year later. And the Brood, for all that they're Alien knock-offs, have always disturbed me. It's a horrible enough basic premise to retain its shiversome effect even when buried in cliches.

Great call! X-Men # 161, a scary comic book? Well, yes! You've proved your point :)Colin Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15246781681702128600noreply@blogger.com
